Cancellations: For those that travel, I appreciate the need for an efficient “cancellation” procedure and have given it a great deal of thought. I can’t think of one and I am open to suggestions. The hangup is that the weather reports are NOT centred on Mission and are there-by not accurate enough to base a decision on. In more cases then not, the “bad” weather actually misses Mission.
The best we can do is take a somewhat educated guess on the weather, consider the current condition of the track and consider how much more water it could take before it becomes un-rideable.
When the Fraser River water levels are average, our track does not retain water and dries very quickly. Meaning, even after a good rain on Friday Morning, followed by a breezy Friday afternoon and evening, it can be OK to ride on Saturday morning.
In 2010 alone, we had 3 events that by all “signs” should have been cancelled 2 days prior, but turned out to have the best riding conditions. We had 1 Tuesday night that had torrential down pours everywhere in the Valley BUT Mission. Again perfect riding conditions missed by a lot of riders.
All I can do is post updates on this website regarding the conditions. Again, I realize that most times that will be to late for those travelling longer distances.
We have considered a webcam – but the cost of the Internet service is proving to be to costly.
